Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The Department of Housing and Residence Life at the University ofNorth Carolina at Wilmington houses approximately 5100 students ina combination of residence halls, suites, and apartments. In orderto facilitate a positive living experience on the campus, a varietyof staff are necessary to carry out the responsibilities. Full-timeprofessional staff, student residence hall staff, and facilitiesstaff work to develop an atmosphere conducive to academic andpersonal growth. It is the mission of the Department of Housing andResidence Life to appropriately challenge residents to develop totheir full potential by supporting their educational and personalgrowth and development.

The Department of Housing and Residence Life strives to establish asatisfactory physical environment that emphasizes the utilizationof human and material resources in an efficient manner. Brief Summary of Work for this Position

Housing and residence life has a maintenance/renovation programthat includes preventative maintenance, a timely and efficientrepair program, a procedure for renovating and updating facilities,and a systematic replacement program for equipment andfurnishings.

Duties include:

  • Analyze work demands to adequately maintain our facilities andprovide optimum customer service and satisfaction.
  • Perform maintenance for all housing and residence lifebuildings.
  • Recommend work order request to the physical plant for majoritems of repair in the field of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, andlock issues.
  • Work with the Assistant Director of Facility Operations toensure maintenance supplies are stocked to meet the dailyneeds/requirements.
  • Report daily to supervisor on the condition of facilities andwork being done in these facilities; on the progress of specialprojects and the number of daily maintenance requests that arebeing completed.
  • May work in Housing and Residence Life Warehouse asneeded.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience in thetrade(s) areas related to the position’s role may be substituted ona year-for-year basis.

Preferred education, professional skills and experience

  • Knowledge of methods used in building maintenance, repair, andrenovation.
  • Ability to follow plans and schedules to meet deadlines and toreach desired results.
  • Ability to collaborate with residence life staff, physicalplant staff, housekeeping staff, and outside contractors on relatedissues and projects.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to use of computer/iPad
  • Strong customer service skills.
