25 APRIL 2024: The Ansos Society is delighted to announce that we successfully hosted our own Raya open house at Dataran Sastera UM. We welcomed all students from the department as well as anyone from the faculty. The event was potluck-based, where we gathered a variety of foods. It was a wonderful moment fostering bonds among students from different years, coming together to enjoy a meal in one place. Additionally, our international friends had the opportunity to experience some Malaysian culture. We prepared specific areas/sections for Malaysian foods, traditional clothes, and traditional games such as congkak and batu seremban, allowing everyone to try them out.

Did you know that there is a district in Indonesia named Maybrat?I had just found out about it in August 2021 when I received an announcement that I would be assigned to work there for one year as an education facilitator.Maybrat is one of the districts in Southwest Papua. If you search for it on maps, you will find it is located in the eye of New Guinea. The districts can be reached in 4-5 hours from the gate of Papua: Sorong, which can be reached in around a 4-hour flight from Indonesia's current capital city, Jakarta. Compared to other districts in Papua, Maybrat can be included as one of the developed districts. It is already connected from the west to the east with the Trans Papua road. So, living there was not as challenging as I thought my Pengajar Muda (PM) journey would be.PM itself is a program initiated byGerakan Indonesia Mengajar(GIM) that works by assigning young graduates to the rural areas of Indonesia to become education facilitators for one year. Since the program was released in 2010, it has already had 25 batches. I was joined in 2021 as part of the 21st batch.GIM itself dreams of inviting everyone to play a role in education based on their position and potencies. GIM believes that everyone in Indonesia should be responsible in seeking to realize the promise of Indonesia's independence: to make the life of the nation intelligent. That is why they invite young graduates from any major to work as an education facilitator. Hopefully, during their one year living in the rural area, as an educated person, they can empower local people to take a role and create initiatives related to, but not limited to, education there. So, did I successfully empower people in Maybrat to take a role and create initiatives related but not limited to education?I am still trying to figure it out. After reflecting on my journey while living there in the past year (yes, I need more than one full year to write this post finally!), I found that every effort I made to empower people I met there brought me unique and fascinating life lessons that I now cherish so much. Such as:I met a 29-year-old teacher named Jenneffree. She is not a Papuan, but since she graduated from a university in Ambon with a Bachelor's in Education in 2016, she went to Maybrat with full awareness to become a teacher. Through meeting her, I became aware of how to respond to technological developments in underdeveloped areas. You can read my story about her in this post:https://lnkd.in/g-EpX6yHShe is just one of many great people who gave me superb lessons while living in Maybrat. You can read my other stories in my blog:https://lnkd.in/g2Dkn9ZCThrough this post, I want to thank GIM for the opportunity that gave me many new experiences and lessons. My PM journey led me to a tipping point in life that helped me to find what I want to pursue in life.

Iff on Instagram: "Hampir semua orang tiap pertama ngobrol pasti nanya, "Ngapain jauh-jauh ke sini?

Featured in Malaysia’s Newspaper - Harian Metro Yesterday I got featured in the local #newspaper Harian Metro. #Grateful for the recognition! Thank you to Harian Metro for featuring me in yesterday’s issue. It's an #honor to be recognized by such a respected publication.I am humbled and delighted to receive messages from those who were inspired by the #article. In all honesty, my intention was truly to #inspire people like me. An average person, not smart but not dumb and truly think they have no redeeming qualities. Average people like me know the feeling.I just wanted to send the message that we all have our own "kelebihan", we are all good in our own ways. Like the quote I mentioned "Everybody is a Genius. But If You Judge a Fish by Its Ability to Climb a Tree, It Will Live Its Whole Life Believing that It is Stupid"Just because you're not smart academically doesn't mean you're dumb. You just need to discover what you like and what you're good at. To do that, explore more, use whatever platform available and squeeze it dry. Just be brave, break out of our comfort zones, connect with individuals of different backgrounds and beliefs, and learn from one another. Just a 1 hour conversation with people with different backgrounds and beliefs can truly open your mind.As the Quran mentioned "Indeed, We created you from a male and a female, and made you into peoples and tribes so that you may "get to" know one another."I am far from successful, still struggling, still losing my mind. But we try everyday one step at a time.Don't give up. We got this!P.S. I was truly an average student in highschool, no straight As, no boarding school. Just constantly trying and strugglingHere’s the link, if you’re interested: https://lnkd.in/gcZmQ4GN#USM #UniversitiSainsMalaysia #MPPUSM#PBLTSociety #EnglishForProfessionals

🎓 The Transformative Impact of Orientation Week on New Students🏛️ Dear LinkedIn Community,I hope this post finds you all in good health and high spirits. Today, I'd like to shed light on the often underestimated yet immensely valuable aspect of the academic journey - Orientation Week!📅 On the 24th of July 2023, I had the privilege of facilitating the Orientation Week at Institut Kemahiran Mara Bintulu. This two-day event marked the beginning of the July - December 2023 session and left an indelible mark on the incoming students. Allow me to share some of the significant benefits and positive impacts this week-long affair had on our new students.Familiarization with the Campus: Orientation Week provided our students with a comprehensive tour of our beautiful campus. They got acquainted with key locations, facilities, and support services, fostering a sense of comfort and confidence in navigating the college grounds.Building a Supportive Community: Engaging ice-breaker activities and group discussions facilitated meaningful connections among our incoming students. The bonds formed during Orientation Week created a supportive community, alleviating feelings of isolation and ensuring they felt right at home.Introduction to College Resources: We believe that knowledge is power. To empower our students, we introduced them to a plethora of resources available on campus - academic support services, counseling centers, career guidance, health services, and diverse extracurricular clubs.Academic Preparedness: Equipping our students for academic success was a key focus during Orientation Week. Workshops on study tips, time management, and academic excellence provided them with valuable tools to thrive in their chosen fields.Understanding College Policies and Procedures: Clear communication about college policies, rules, and procedures set the foundation for a successful academic journey. From attendance requirements to plagiarism policies, our students gained insights that fostered academic integrity.Mental and Emotional Preparation: We acknowledged the emotional challenges of transitioning to college life. To address this, our Orientation Week included talks and workshops on mental health, stress management, and coping strategies, ensuring our students' well-being.Encouraging Involvement in Campus Life: We encouraged our students to seize every opportunity to make the most of their college experience. Orientation Week showcased a myriad of extracurricular activities and student organizations, igniting their passion for active involvement.https://rb.gy/dpua7#OrientationWeek #StudentExperience #InstitutKemahiranMaraBintulu #CollegeLife #AcademicJourney #EducationMatters #MajlisPerwakilanPelajar

Why would anyone leave a paradise? Let's move beyond assumptions and understand the living conditions of indigenous people in Malaysia. It's not uncommon to hear people say "Why are you helping the Orang Asli when they should be happy to live in such organic places in the jungle?"Here are some of the things from my experience that some communities wished were better:- running water - bathing in a river is all fun and games when you choose to, but when it's your only option and you have to walk 200m down and up the hill to "shower" at night it's tough.- electricity - having a sick baby crying at night and the parent not being able to find the medicine is scary.- medical services - having the nearest hospital 3 hours away by motorbike on dirt roads means a pregnant woman might have to either deliver at home, with all the risks expected, or leave her entire family at home including her other children, and be in the hospital from month 7-8 until the baby comes.- education - having the nearest school 3 hours away by motorbike makes it impossible to commute so children remain illiterate, uneducated, in the village.- food/nutrition - not everything grows or can be farmed in the village. Travelling for 2 hours to get groceries incurs additional costs, affects freshness of ingredients, and limits food supply. Plus, there is no fridge because there is no electricity, so they cannot stock up for long. Even one of these challenges brings tremendous struggles upon a community. And this is why we care and we help.

October 28, 2022, I was entrusted with leading the 12th grade class to work on an event with the theme "Youthforia (The Jewel Of Nusantara)" in commemoration of the youth oath as well as language month. With this event, I learned a lot to lead a team consisting of several types of visions. What i learned become an Event Leader: - Making event planning - Coordinating each division (events, decorations, documentation, funds, etc.) - Holding meetings to find ideas, planning, implementation to evaluation - Able to work together in a team However, behind all that good teamwork is the key to our cohesiveness during the process of forming this event. In such a way that the audience can understand the meaning and benefits about what we convey to young generation z to continue and preserve their culture and love for Indonesia, their homeland.
