Thomas A. Bomgardner, 70, passed away October 10, 2022.

He was born in Paris, Illinois on February 29, 1952, son of Arble Leo and Wanda (Thomas) Bomgardner.

Tom worked at the former National Southwire Aluminum, located in Hawesville, Kentucky. He was a biker at heart and loved anything to do with motorcycles, including racing around. Tom especially loved rides to South Dakota and Sturgis. He loved animals (always looking forward to walking his dog) and being outdoors. His family will miss his sense of humor and even his ornery quick wit. Tom was deeply loved and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by wife, Louise Bomgardner; his step-sons, Kenneth and Jeremy Dennis; siblings, Pat Bomgardner (Laura), Linda Archibald (Steve), Jeanette Noggle (Rusty) and Barb Smith (David); grandchildren, Zoe, Eva and Asher; several nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews and cousins.

Preceding him in death were his parents, step-mother, Thelma Bomgardner; brother, Clyde Bomgardner and a niece, Mandy Peavy Howard.

Memorial contributions may be made to an animal shelter of your choice.

Terry Wayne Leistner, 66, passed away October 5, 2022 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.

He was born in Eureka, Indiana on December 22, 1955 to John and Anna Mae (Smith) Leistner.

Terry was a 1974 graduate of South Spencer High School and veteran of the United States Army. He retired from General Electric. Terry was united in marriage on January 4, 2000 to Kim (Anson) Coyle.

Terry had been involved in the Cannelton Men’s Softball League and was an avid collector. He enjoyed fishing, tinkering on small engines, being outdoors, spending time with grandchildren and being with his dog, Minnie, who has been lost without him.

Surviving is his wife of 22 years, Kim Leistner, Cannelton; children, Steve Leistner (Stacey), Cannelton, Stephanie Thompson, Cloverport, KY, Brandi Fodge (Mike), J.P Coyle, Ike Coyle, all of Tell City and Joey Coyle (Amber), Cannelton; sisters, Marlene Murphy (Chester) Grandview and Faye Hay (Charles), Stephensport, KY; 18 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents and sister, Deanie Jones.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM CDT on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Pastor Joel Grigsby will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Lamar, with military rites provided by the American Legion Post 213. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00-7:00 PM and Saturday 12:00-2:00 PM at the funeral home.

James Edward Harris, Jr., 40, passed away on October 4, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born in San Bernadino, California on April 20, 1982. James was a 2000 graduate of Perry Central High School and was very proud to serve his country in the United States Army Reserve.

He was united in marriage on December 27, 2005 to Mary Cronin. James was currently employed as a welder at Meggitt, in Troy.

James enjoyed being outdoors; hunting, fishing, camping and riding four-wheelers and his side by side. He loved to spend time with his three boys and his dogs, Tucker, Ember, Jackie and Jace.

Surviving is his wife of 16 years, Mary Harris; sons, James, III, Orron and Brantley Harris; a sister, Candace Nichols; a dear friend who James thought of as a brother, Darrin Reed and Mary’s family for whom James was a part of for 19 years, Rick and Julie Cronin, Julie and Wes Peter, Susie and James Bruce, Rick, Jr and Carina Cronin, James and September Cronin and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death was his father, James Edward Harris, Sr.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM CDT on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Pastor Dave Hall will officiate. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery, Newtonville, with military rites. Visitation will be on Friday from 2:00-7:00 PM and Saturday 9:00-11:00 AM at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, September 30, 2022, at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel, with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Derby. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Chaplain Jason Rea will officiate.

He retired in 1986 from General Electric. Bill was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, American Legion Post 213 and Hoosier Heights Country Club. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards and manicuring his lawn.

Surviving are his daughters, Janet Macy (Wayne), Hardinsburg, KY and Cyntha Joyal (Tony), Middleburg, FL; grandchildren, Lisa Rhoad (Kevin), Jenna Lucas (Dustin) and Sean Joyal; great grandchildren, Dylan, Mackenzie and Lane Rhoad, Wyatt and Rylee Lucas.

She was born in St. Croix on September 29, 1942 to Estel and Jessie Mae (Wiseman) Rohl.

Alice was a graduate of Oil Township School and was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church and former member of St. Mark Catholic Church. She and her husband owned and operated Hubert Kleaving Farms in rural Perry County.

In her earlier years, Alice liked to fish and squirrel hunt. She enjoyed working word search puzzles, watching Dr. Pol on television and taking drives with her husband, “Hube” and their dog, Macy.

Surviving are her children, Diana Hedinger (Charles), Randy Kleaving (Dawn), Darlene Davis (Tim) and Rick Kleaving (Sarah), all of rural Tell City; brother, Bill Rohl (Nancy), Schnellville; sister-in-law, Marlene Rohl, Rockford, IL; grandchildren, Jared Hedinger (Alie), Clint Hedinger (Jay Vasse), Blake and Adam Kleaving, Lauren Gaynor (Brandon), Emily Alvey (Daniel), Claire Davis, Tyler, Tayton, and Tinley Kleaving and great grandchildren, Brandt and Katherine Hedinger, James Alvey and is expecting a great granddaughter in November.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Hubert C. “Hube” Kleaving and brothers, Irvin, Charles and Novey Rohl.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM CDT on Monday, September 19, 2022 at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Bristow. Rev. Luke Waugh will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mark Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00-6:00 PM and Monday 8:00-9:30 AM at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel.

Obituary Preview: Mary Yvonne Baur, 75, formerly of Tell City, passed away unexpectedly in Colorado Springs, Colorado on September 14, 2022, surrounded by her family.

She was born September 10, 1947, in Tell City, Indiana, daughter of the late Casper and Mildred (Gengelbach) Hagedorn.

Yvonne was a 1965 graduate of Tell City High School. She married Gary, her high school sweetheart, and they moved to Long Beach, California where he was stationed in the U.S. Navy. After his service in the Vietnam War and honorable discharge, they relocated to Flagstaff, Arizona to raise their family.

Yvonne worked at Ralston Purina, retiring after more than 25 years of service. Yvonne and Gary moved back home to Tell City in 2007, where they spent many of their retired years traveling and looking for treatment options for Gary’s rare cancer. A few years after Gary’s passing, she moved to be closer to family in Colorado Springs and to enjoy everything that Colorado had to offer.

Yvonne was a world traveler, devout Catholic, and loving mother and Baba. She loved reading, knitting and watching Hallmark movies; but more than anything, being surrounded by her family and friends was always where her heart was most content.

She is survived by her two sons, Greg Baur (Vicky) and Geoff Baur (Amy), daughter Emily Micena (Chris), her six grandchildren, Ciera (Sam), Casidy (Trevor), Nicholas, Sophie, Adeline, Meredith, and step-grandson, Anthony, five siblings, Joe Wayne Hagedorn, Sharon Smith, Richard Hagedorn, Jerry Hagedorn and Cathy Bower, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents and beloved husband of 51 years, Gary L. Baur.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday October 28, 2022 at St. Paul Catholic Church with burial in St. Mark Cemetery.

She was born on February 12, 1942 in Bristow, daughter of Murl William and Anna Cecelia (Lutgring) Flamion.

Barbara recently retired from SIRS after 30 years. She started her career with the Perry County Auditor’s Office under Russell Cassidy, when the courthouse was located in Cannelton. She then served under Margie Rhodes, and later served two terms as Perry County Auditor for a total of 20 years of service.

She was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church and enjoyed gardening, canning, farming, playing cards and was the biggest fan of her granddaughters sporting and school events. She enjoyed time with family and her dogs, Tutu and J.J.

Surviving is her son, Mark A. Goffinet and wife, Pam, Tell City; brother, Bill Flamion (Barbara), Tell City; granddaughters, Kayla Goffinet and Lynsay Peter (Marcus) and her first great grandchild due this week.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband of 59 years, Allen F. Goffinet in 2020.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM CDT on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at St. Isidore Catholic Church, Bristow. Rev. Luke Waugh will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 20, 2022 from 3:00-7:00 PM at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel and Wednesday from 9:00-11:00 AM at St. Isidore Catholic Church.

Chris Edward Alvey, 59, passed away September 12, 2022, at IU Health University Hospital, Indianapolis, surrounded by his family.

He was born October 12, 1962, to Ralph and Bernadine Alvey.

Chris graduated from Tell City High School in 1981 and was united in marriage on April 16, 1998 to Carol Kelley. He was a proud member of Boilermakers Local 374 where he served as a foreman on several jobs.

Family was so important to Chris and when someone needed a helping hand, he was there and eager to help with a family project; building garages, decks, fences and doing electrical work. As one of fourteen children, many sports were played during family get togethers and Chris was always happy to join in. He loved going fishing and playing cards with his brothers. While living in Florida, he enjoyed refereeing sporting events and helping with St. Bernadette’s Catholic School and Church. He grew up in and was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and volunteered many hours with Perry County Habitat for Humanity. Surviving is his wife, Carol Alvey; children, Suzanne Brucken, Joshua Alvey, Mary Grace Alvey (Aaron Lutgring) and extra daughter, Monica Perryman. He considered himself blessed to be a grandfather to Cavan Breitweiser, Christian Alvey, Caleb and Caitlin Tyree and Beauregard, Mia and Cooper Alvey; great grandchildren, Aubrey and Grayson Breitweiser and Raylynn arriving in December; brothers and sisters, Terry (Linda) Alvey, Mona (Joe) Goffinet, Byron (Lucy) Alvey, Susan (Tom) Hughes, Ralph (Marilyn) Alvey, David (Patsy) Alvey, Patricia (Jim) Huffman, Bill (Wendy) Alvey, Paul (Ginger) Alvey, Julie (Davies) Bellamy, Jackie (Jerry) Witvoet, and Kevin (Diane) Alvey as well as a

host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Beth James; two great nephews Noah James and Kieran Paauwe and a niece, Holly Finley Clark.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM CDT on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at St. Paul Catholic Church. Rev. Tony Hollowell will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00-7:00 PM and Saturday 8:30-9:30 AM at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel.

She liked to read, watch movies, shop and enjoy time with her pets.

Surviving is her brother, John “Bill” Wagner, McCalla, Alabama and nephews, Chris Wagner, Tell City and Brad Wagner, Nashville, Tennessee.

Marilyn requested private services. Donations in her memory may be given to Warrick County Humane Society or the American Cancer Society.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Ricky Weatherholt and Angela (Greathouse) Hanes; a daughter, Brynleigh Carey in infancy and a brother, Donnie Hanes.

There will be a memorial dinner held on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at the Cannelton American Legion.

Marjo J. (Ress) Howe, 80, of Corydon and formerly of Tell City, passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.

Shewas born at home in Tell City, Indiana on July 2nd, 1942, the first child of John V. and Marieta C. (Paulin) Ress.

Marjo was a graduate of Tell City High School and Indiana State University. She made her career as a microbiologist. She also operated several antique businesses over the years with her husband, Abe. She was an avid gardener, reader, and loved to travel throughout the United States and the world with her family and friends. Marjo was a long-time member of the Kentuckiana Herb Society and the Genealogy Society.

She is survived by two daughters, Marjo Muir Wells of Sacramento, CA and Bridget Howe and partner,Ben Guerrero of Stamford, CT; a son, Jasin Howe, and wife, Maria Howe of Sacramento, CA; granddaughter, Amber Wells of Sacramento, CA; a great granddaughter, Alyssa Coleman of Sacramento, CA; sisters, Jane (Lynn) Kline of Evansville, IN and Mary (Steve) Farley of Franklin, KY; brother, Tom (Roberta) Ress of Athens, AL, sisters-in-law, Anna Lou Howe of Evanston, IN and Susan (Mark) Waterman of Chrisney, IN and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, her husband, of 39 years, Dr. Alvin E. “Abe” Howe also preceded her in death.

As per Marjo’s wishes, no services will be held.

She retired from McDonalds in Tell City, where her co-workers lovingly called her “Grandma”. She would always greet you with a smile and she had a welcoming personality that will be missed.

Elva was a member of the Tell City Church of Christ and she enjoyed flower gardening, working puzzles and spending time with her family.

Surviving is her husband of 65 years, Bob Dickman, Tell City; children, Cheryl Brinksneader, Terri Bryant (Larry), Tell City, Kimberly Clayton (Joe), Corydon and Rob Dickman (Paula), McCordsville; grandchildren, Ryan and Jayce Brinksneader, Katie Marsh, Jacob “J.D.” Bryant, Amber Wilbur, Austin and Jarrod Clayton and several great grandchildren along with her step-sister Eileen Talbott.

Preceding her in death were her parents, John Alva Lawalin and Verna Snider; step father, Noah Snider; a sister, Joann Doughty; brothers, Robert Eugene, Denny and her twin, Alva Lawalin; step siblings Verlee Moseby, Walter Snider, Robert Snider, Wilma Jones, Zelma Fuchs, and Eva Wittman, as well as son-in-law, Steve Brinksneader.

Porter Jasper “PJ” Davis, 84, passed away August 23, 2022 at his home in Apalona.

He was born in Tell City, Indiana on January 2, 1938 to Chester L. and Anna C. (Wetzel) Davis.

P.J. was a 1956 graduate of Tell City High School, a United States Navy veteran and served time in the Indiana Army National Guard. He was united in marriage on October 8, 1977 to Anita Ubelhor, who survives.

P.J. retired in 2000 from Sterling Boiler and Mechanical, Evansville. He had also worked for the former Maxine Marine, sold insurance, owned the former Tell City Sign Company and most recently worked at Wal-Mart in the hardware department. P.J. was known for his pleasant demeanor; was always friendly, helpful and loved to small talk.

He was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church. P.J. enjoyed mowing grass, scratching lottery tickets, playing trumpet in the Crawford County Community Band, fishing and watching football. He loved to spend time with his family, friends and grandchildren. He especially liked supporting Vanessa and Audrey at music and sporting events.

Surviving is his wife of 45 years, Anita Davis, St. Croix; children and extended family, Josh Davis (Ashley), Evansville, Dana Bates (Ben), Evansville, Daniel Davis (Paula), Tell City, David Davis (Kim), Blytheville, AR, Christina Davis, Sikeston, MO, Clay Ewing (Barbara), South Bend, IN, Kris Ewing (Sharon), Westminster, SC, Gertie Leinenbach (Randy) and several grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; siblings, Mildred Riley, Virginia Lee in infancy, Chuck, Robert and Raymond Davis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM CDT on Friday, August 26, 2022 at St. Isidore Catholic Church. Rev. Luke Waugh and Rev. Jeremy King will officiate. Leroy had worked at Tell City Chair Company and retired in 1999 from Southern Indiana Power, where he was a meter technician. A 50-year member of Deer Creek Baptist Church, Leroy served as a church trustee for several years. He enjoyed playing euchre, camping, traveling, hiking, classic cars and building model cars.

Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Janice Nugent, Tell City; children, Robin Ball (Danny), Kevin Nugent (Suzy) and Tonya George (Greg), all of Tell City; four grandchildren, Derek Ball, Brittany Beier, Cody Nugent and Adam George; eight great grandchildren; sisters, Violet Nichols and Doris Pritchard, Hawesville, KY, a brother, Edward Nugent, Grayson, KY and several nieces and nephews.

Joyce Ann (Connor) Williams, 86, went to heaven to be with the Lord on Thursday morning, August 11, 2022 at Owensboro Regional Health Hospital surrounded by her family.

She was born to Sewell, Sr. and Clara (Schraner) Connor on December 7, 1935 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

She graduated from Tell City High School in 1954 and continued her education at Deaconess School of Nursing in Evansville. Shortly after graduating, she was united in marriage to Nolan Williams on September 21, 1957 at the Tell City Church of Christ.

She began her career at Deaconess Hospital and over the next forty-one years she worked several nursing positions that included the Tell City Clinic, Perry Central School’s first nurse, supervisor at Perry County Hospital (where she was EMT and had taught CPR classes) and Branchville Correctional Facility where she retired in 1998.In her retirement, she became a Mary Kay consultant.

As a child, Joyce was a 10 year 4-Her and involved in the Rural Youth Club. She later became a leader of the Mt. Pleasant 4-H Club with her husband, Nolan and continued to lead the club for 52 years, with the two of them contributing over a century of cumulative 4-H service.

She was involved in many other community activities to include 4-H Council, Child Abuse Prevention Committee, Modern Woodmen, and a Sunday school teacher at Lilly Dale Church of Christ. For her community involvement, she was recognized as Woman of the Year by the Tell City Kiwanis Club in 1980.

Her hobbies included gardening, crocheting, traveling, working with youth, and feeding her squirrels and birds.

Joyce was known for her spunky and caring personality with an unshakable strength that carried her through life, even when faced with many physical challenges. She had an independent spirit with a huge loving heart for her family and faith.

Surviving are her children: Phyllis (Joe) Tingley, Brian (Jeannie) Williams, Pam (J.P.) Hilgenhold. Five grandsons: Matt Williams, Pat (Amber) Williams, Levi, Luke and Lane (Emili) Hilgenhold. Four great-grandchildren: Emma, Macy, Leah, Owen Williams and another Williams great-grandchild due in February. Two surviving siblings: Sewell Jr (Brenda) Connor and Wanda Faulkenburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband of sixty-three years, James Nolan Williams, by exactly two years. A granddaughter in-law, Shana Williams, also preceded her.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM CDT on Monday, August 15, 2022 at Lilly Dale Church of Christ. Bro. Eddie Olberding will officiate. Burial will follow in Horton Cemetery, Mount Pleasant. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00-6:00 PM at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel and Monday from 9:00-10:00 AM at the church.

David attended St. Paul School in Tell City and graduated high school from St. Meinrad Seminary. He started his college education at University of Evansville, later transferring to Purdue University where he earned a degree in electrical engineering.

He was a United States Air Force veteran and served in the National Security Agency. While stationed in Washington, D.C. he attended Georgetown University graduating with a Jurisprudence Degree. David served as Perry County’s Circuit Court Judge for 30 years.

A member of St. Paul Catholic Church, David served on the first Parish Council and sang in the church choir. He served many years on the Board of Directors at Southern Hills in Jasper and was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #1172, American Legion Post #213 and Tell City Kiwanis .

David loved to build things, thus getting him involved in making sets and backgrounds for the annual Schweizer Fest musicals. He mostly enjoyed having gatherings with family and friends.

Surviving is his wife, Maggie Evrard, Tell City; children, Joe Evrard (Terri), Louisville, Jackie Rolf (Dave), Ft. Mitchell, KY and Michelle Marietta (Larry), Zionsville; grandchildren, Ben (Kelsey), Jacob and Joe Studer, Nathan, Ross, Sam and Ty Evrard, Will and Katie Rolf and Molly and Maggie Marietta and one great grandson, Boone Studer.

Preceding him in death were his parents and brother, Rev. Donald J. Evrard.

Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Daisy James; children, Mary Beertzer, Tell City, Roger James, Cannelton, Donald James, Tell City, Kathy Clayton, Tell City, Lana Howe (Denny), Tell City, Sheila Leisman (Randy), Ferdinand, Kevin James, Cannelton and Doyle James (Karen), Hawesville, KY; siblings, Charles James (Gloria), Troy, Larry James, Cannelton, Julius James, Tell City, Delbert James, Tell City, Janice James, Tell City and Donald James, Cannelton; 16 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.
