Mowa zależna, w języku angielskim 'reported speech', to sposób przekazywania czyjejś wypowiedzi, nie cytując dosłownie, ale podając jej treść w zmienionej formie. Nie cytujemy dosłownie a przytaczamy wypowiedź w zmienionej formie za pomocą zdania podrzędnie złożonego ze spójnikiem "że". Przy tworzeniu mowy zależnej zmieniają się czasowniki, zaimki i czas. Tworzenie pytań w mowie zależnej polega na przekształceniu bezpośredniego pytania w zdanie pośrednie, przy użyciu odpowiedniego wstępu (np.
